DRAGOȘ OLTEANU
SENIOR ENGINEERING MANAGER CEE UPC ROMANIA

Technology innovations appear in companies and environments promoting safety as life commandment.

Dragos Olteanu is Senior Engineering Manager UPC CEE since January 2017. Previously, he joined UPC Romania On May 2012 as Power & HVAC Senior Infrastructure Manager.

He was involved in an international revolutionary sustainability and energy efficiency project management, for technical data centers with power consumption between 100 MWh and 300 MWh / year. The result of his work on innovative cooling systems, with major impact in decreasing of total power consumption of cooling systems in technical rooms lead to remarkable results.

UPC Romania is part of Liberty Global Group. UPC Romania implemented the first cooling system based on PCM – Phase Change Materials – technology in Alba Iulia Data Center, in 2017.

After the first 6 months, the total power consumption & carbon footprint decreased with 10 MWh. In the same data center, UPC installed a photovoltaic system at 9 kW maximum peak and after 6 months they produced around 5 MWh.

UPC Romania estimates that power consumption can be reduced with 25 MWh after one year – the equivalent of 35% – by using the mixed use of the two technologies – the PCM and the photovoltaic panels, respectively.

Before his career at UPC, Dragos was Network Deployment Manager at Telekom Romania and Equipment Implementation Manager at ZAPP Romania.
